A research project to investigate and produce ground investigation interpretation tools.

What it's all about

Several tools exist for presenting and displaying borehole and trial pit data in various ways, so that ground profiles can be generated by human experts. Based on methods for describing languages using formal grammars, we are researching ways in which such data can be coded in order to automatically generate profiles without human interaction, or at least provide practical tool support for this activity.  This will enable a generic, predictive description of the configuration of strata across a given site.  We are also looking at similar techniques for consistent and unambiguous description of the fine-grained structure within strata
